Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!
S-cripture:
Psalm 7:10
My shield is God Most High, who saves the upright in heart.
O-bservation:
There are two words that jumped out in this short, two-line verse: “Shield” and “Heart.” King David said God Almighty is Our Shield, and that Our God saves those who have an upright heart.
A-pplication:
When the word shield is mentioned throughout the Old Testament, God is often connected to that metaphor. A shield protects the BEARER from the attack of a certain enemy. God is only our shield when we yield the full control of our lives to Him. When one lets down his or her shield, there’s little protection against an enemy. That’s where the word “Heart” appears in the discussion. As long as one’s heart is upright, or pure, or content, the shield will always remain in place. However, when one’s heart becomes corrupted and disillusioned by the philosophies of this world, in time God is left out of the picture. With no shield to deflect the enemy’s arrows, and with all protection gone, the BEARER of the shield falls prey to the enemy’s attack and FALLS. Every “Follower of Jesus” must determine early in their walk with Jesus that they will never try and traverse the mountains and valleys of life without … “My Shield!”
P-rayer:
Dear Jesus,
This AM I’m thrilled that You will always be “My Shield.” Amen
