A Servant’s Prayer

S. O. A. P.

Here’s your 90 second AM devotional!

S-cripture:

Genesis 22:2

Then he prayed, “Lord, God of my master Abraham, make me successful today, and show kindness to my master Abraham.

O-bservation:

This is the story of Eliezer, the servant of Abraham who found a wife for Isaac. One has to look to the Jewish Torah to discover his name. Eliezer had one desire as a servant—he wanted his master (employer) Abraham to be happy. His prayer to God was that he would be successful in finding Isaac a wife in a foreign land. He wanted his master Abraham to be at peace before he died.

A-pplication:

I know that we have many accounts in history of cruel employers who treated their employees somewhat like animals. But that was not true of Abraham. The thing about Eliezer that has impressed me my whole life as a “Follower of Jesus” is that he lived to make Abraham happy. When he wasn’t near Abraham geographically, he longed to be back home with him. It was his joy to SERVE. You and I both have a Master. His name is Jesus. May it be said of WE servants, that our longing is to make Jesus happy. May our “Servant Prayer” always be, “Lord make me successful in order to please you.” Oh, by the way … Eliezer got his prayer answered and brought Rebecca home to Isaac. Abraham was Happy!

P-rayer:

Dear Jesus,

As Your servant today, I ask that You would make me successful in pursuing Your will for my life. It is my desire to make You happy. Amen
