2 Peter 3:3
Above all, you must understand that in the last days scoffers will come, scoffing and following their own evil desires.
The Apostle Peter addresses an issue that every “Follower of Jesus” has encountered in their life at one time or another. It’s the challenge of “Scoffers.” The dictionary says that the word “Scoffer” is synonymous with the word “Mocker.” Certainly in my life I have experienced that challenge.
Probably every “Follower of Jesus” who has ever read this verse through the centuries and generations since it was written believed that they were living in the “Last Days.” The fact remains that “Scoffers” have been around forever. And the challenge the “Scoffer” throws down is to walk away from Jesus and follow them, in what Peter calls, “Their own evil desires.” But once you have truly walked away from your own days of “Scoffing” to follow Jesus, you just can’t go back to the life of a … “Scoffer.”
It’s been so long since I was a “Scoffer” that I have a tough time remembering that I was one. BUT … I run into so many that I know what a “Scoffer” is. I’m just thankful that those days of being a “Scoffer” are over. Amen
