S. O. A. P.
Here’s your 90 second AM devotional!
S-cripture:
Zechariah 9:12
Return to your fortress, you prisoners of hope; even now I announce that I will restore twice as much to you.
O-bservation:
Israel had suffered for many years under the rule of the Babylonians when this prophecy was given. And now Cyrus of Persia had issued an order for the Jewish exiles to commence their slow return to Jerusalem to rebuild first the walls … and then the temple. In the process, the Prophet speaks for The Lord when he calls them “Prisoners of Hope.” He says to the people of Israel, “I’m going to pay back double for all the suffering you have experienced.”
A-pplication:
The term “Double Portion” is used frequently throughout Scripture. Most often it is used to promise blessings from the Almighty. History bears out the truth that when God’s people suffer for however long, eventually they will be delivered from their plight. God then makes up what they have lost, and as if to start over He gives them the same amount (DOUBLE) to rebuild again!!! The term “Prisoners of Hope” paints the picture of a man or woman as if they are “Chained” to a Good Outcome. “Chained” to Victory. “Chained” to a SMILE in the midst of the PAIN. “Chained” to an Open Door when all that’s in front of them is a Brick Wall. So, from one “Chainee” to another … No wonder We Believers are known as … “Prisoners of Hope!”
P-rayer:
Dear Jesus,
Because You have saved me, You have made me … Your … “Prisoner of Hope.” No matter what … “We’re Going to Win.” Amen
