Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!
S-cripture:
Habakkuk 2:18
“Of what value is an idol carved by a craftsman? Or an image that teaches lies? For the one who makes it trusts in his own creation; he makes idols that cannot speak.
O-bservation:
The Prophet Habakkuk had complained to God that even though God could not look on sin, it appeared to Habakkuk that God tolerated treachery in those around him. God answered Habakkuk by letting him know that those who worshipped the very things they had made with their own hands would not prosper.
A-pplication:
There are two things that are important to note in this verse. First, we mortals don’t see things the way God sees them. His global view of a single issue we face dwarfs our limited understanding of what He should be doing to fix it. Very quickly the Prophet understood this fact, and he responded with a Prayer instead of a Complaint. Second, God affirmed that those who insist on worshiping their own handiwork will never live to see their idols answer them. Every “Follower of Jesus” will be tempted to one day Praise the work of their “Own Hands.” May we ALL refuse this temptation and instead choose to Praise only Jesus, the Creator of us ALL!
P-rayer:
Dear Jesus,
This AM I choose once again to Praise the Name of the Lord our God. I will praise only You my God, both now and forever more. Amen
Comment (1)
I was tested yesterday in the attachment I built to things and I was ready to give up on my offering day when the Lord showed up in kindness and tender mercy. I found the part of my sewing machine in the trunk of my car where the spare wheel is. How did I know to look there? It was God’s grace who taught me that He was greater than all the objects I was so worried about.
