Here’s your 90 second AM devotional!
S-cripture:
1 Corinthians 4:20
For the kingdom of God is not a matter of talk but of power.
O-bservation:
As I read this chapter, I hear the wisdom of an Apostle who had paid the price for the benefits others were now enjoying. Some leaders in this passage were operating as though they had earned God’s blessing on their lives. But Paul said the kingdom of God is much more about “POWER” than it is about “talk.”
A-pplication:
I will never forget the very first “Indiana Jones” movie. There is a point where Indiana Jones is in a tough spot and this huge Middle Eastern guy appears out of nowhere brandishing swords. Everyone in the theater is wondering … “Oh my, what will Indiana do?” At that point Indiana pulls out a gun and shoots the guy and everyone in the theater laughs and applauds. One guy was all talk but the other guy had the real POWER. Our God is all about POWER. When you look at a sunrise or sunset, or see the replays of hurricanes and tornadoes uprooting trees like they are toothpicks, we’re talking about “POWER” in upper case letters … All the time. This is what the “kingdom of God” is founded upon—the almighty POWER of God. When you feel weak … Our God Is NOT Weak. Remember who has “The Gun.” It’s called … “POWER Not talk.”
P-rayer:
Dear Jesus,
I know that You are watching over me today. My trust is in Your POWER, not in all the words the devil would have me believe. I’ll take Your POWER over his talk. Amen
