Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!
S-cripture:
John 21:3
“I’m going out to fish,” Simon Peter told them, and they said, “We’ll go with you.” So they went out and got into the boat, but that night they caught nothing.
O-bservation:
This event took place after Jesus had resurrected from the dead and after he had appeared to them. They all knew that He was alive. They all knew that the next thing on the agenda for Him was to return to the Father in heaven. They knew that they were the ones who had been chosen by Jesus to take the Gospel to the world. Yet here we see them returning to the very thing that Jesus had called them out of.
A-pplication:
Now I know that not ALL of the disciples had been fishermen before Jesus called them to follow Him and change professions. But the main three, Peter, James, and John, had been. And I also know that maybe these men just wanted a little bit of a one-day sabbatical break to go fishing. Maybe they considered themselves on a much-needed couple of days of vacation after all that had happened. But the one feeling I get is they weren’t really sure they wanted to carry on this mission. They knew if Jesus had been killed for his teachings, they’d be next if they continued His mission. They were right. However, that brings the discussion to you and me. When Jesus calls us from where we were to what He wants us to be, there will be hard times ahead. Nothing that’s worth something comes cheap. When the going gets tough, and it will, “Please Don’t Look Back.”
P-rayer:
Dear Jesus,
When I signed up, it was for the long haul, until the end of my time. There’s been so much more good than I ever dreamed would happen, but I want to say it here and now. I’m still in! ALL IN! Amen
