My Burden Is Light

S. O. A. P.

Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!

Acts 15:19
It is my judgement, therefore, that we should not make it difficult for the Gentiles who are turning to God.

These are the words of James, the head of the church in Jerusalem. Paul and Barnabas had returned from their first missionary journey, not only to report on all the miracles they had witnessed but also because certain men from Judea had come to Antioch and began preaching to the new Gentile believers that, unless you are circumcised as Moses taught, you cannot be saved.

Religion is such a heavy load to bear. In any faith, there gets religion mixed into it. This is true of Christianity as well. Religion, in my way of thinking, has to do with man’s “Add Ons,” to the gospel. Jesus said, “My Burden Is Light!” Here, gentiles who previously worshipped gods like Zeus and Hermes were now coming to Christ, and immediately, leaders from Judea ran down to Antioch and said, “Unless you get circumcised you can’t be saved.” Thankfully, Paul, Barnabas, and Peter showed up in Jerusalem, and the council voted to change that rule based on Old Testament scripture. Thank God that these Christian leaders voted to stand with Jesus by saying, “My Burden Is Light.”

Dear Jesus,
Your message is so drastically in opposition to the fallen nature of mankind, that we are attacked for our faith all the time. Thank you for no “Add Ons,” but reminding us that, at all times, “Your Burden Is Light!” Amen
