Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!

S-cripture:

Genesis 13:11

So Lot chose for himself the whole plain of the Jordan and set out toward the east. The two men parted company.

O-bservation:

Abram had been gracious enough to take his nephew Lot with him to the new land God had promised him. God blessed and prospered Abram, and that blessing spread to Lot. Each of them developed large herds of sheep and employees to watch over them. But in time, Lot’s men began to quarrel with the men of Abram. Abram finally told his nephew they would have to split their relationship to save their businesses. Lot chose the prime land and left his uncle with the troubled land.

A-pplication:

Today marks my wife and my 48th anniversary! That’s right. I wish I could say we got married when we were only elementary children, but that wouldn’t be true. It has been a blessed run together. I can tell you that. Early on in marriage, I remember Robyn telling me, “Rich, never forget when people respond to you, it will usually carry with it a, ‘What’s in it for me?’ question. People always put ‘Me FIRST!’” I was young and naive, and I was surprised to hear her say that. My dad’s entire message to me was always “wait your turn.” But the more I’ve lived, I’m pretty sure Robyn was right. That truth sure is lived out in Lot’s life. His entire life was “Me FIRST!” When his uncle gave him a choice, he chose the best property leaving his older uncle to work the tougher territory. I don’t have time, but you know that choice he made turned out to be the land of Sodom and Gomorrah. Just because something appears superior on the outside, be careful, because when you operate with a “Me FIRST” mentality, what looks great on the surface could be filled with trouble.

P-rayer:

Dear Jesus,

Help me today to KEEP putting others first instead of myself, as Dad taught me. I’ve learned that the more time I have to judge a situation, I usually make a better choice in the end. Amen
