Lighten Up

S. O. A. P.

Here’s your 90 second AM devotional!

S-cripture:

Genesis 1:3

And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light.

O-bservation:

We know that on the first day of creation the heavens and earth were formed, land and sea boundaries were set, and God made the light.

A-pplication:

Prior to this happening, Scripture says that darkness covered the face of the earth. Darkness equals the following: uncertainty, limited sight, fear, secrets, hiding, covering up, etc. All of these words create a sense of darkness. A sense of heaviness. Darkness is a state of feeling hemmed in and weighted down, as in … “Wow it’s really dark!” But when God created light, He was saying to the darkness … “Lighten Up!” When you’re in a dark room and someone lights a candle, or better yet turns the flashlight app on their cell phone on, everyone is attracted to the light. There’s almost a sense of relief. The feelings of those in the room … “Lighten Up.” But the worst kind of darkness is “Spiritual Darkness.” And that’s why, ultimately, the heavenly lights weren’t enough. Manufactured human light couldn’t suffice. One day Jesus, “The Light Of The World” (John 8:12), came to earth. And when Jesus came, spiritual darkness had to … “Lighten Up!”

P-rayer:

Dear Jesus,

I’m so thankful this AM that everything about You speaks to the darkness all around me to “Lighten Up!” Amen
