Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!

1 Corinthians 8:13

Therefore, if what I eat, causes my brother or sister to fall into sin, I will never eat meat again, so that I will not cause them to fall.

In the entire chapter of 1 Corinthians eight, St Paul deals with the matter of meat offered to idols and a knowledgeable Christian eating that meat. In other words, as Paul wrote to Titus, “To the pure all things are pure,” (Titus 1:15), he was now saying to believing Christians, but if what I do offends or “Hurts,” a new believer by what they see me doing, then rest assured, “I WON’T HURT YOU!” In fact, Paul said if that’s the case, I’ll never eat meat again.

I truly believe that the simple application here is that Paul was more interested in new believers getting their feet firmly planted in the life of Christ, that he was willing to forgo anything that gave him public pleasure in order to help the new believer flourish. That isn’t to say that he wanted all new believers to become legalists in their Christian walk, but rather he wanted all new believers to really become established in their Christian walk. Consequently, all of us should approach new believers with this personal resolve that says, “I WON’T HURT YOU,’ while you’re adjusting to your new life in Christ. In fact, follow me as I follow Christ.”

Dear Jesus,

This AM, I’m aware that I’ve walked this life in You out for many years while a number of young in the faith believers are adjusting to their new life in Christ. Help me lovingly serve them while they learn to walk in Your ways. Amen
