I Need The Blessing!

Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!

Genesis 32:26

Then the man said, “Let me go, for it is daybreak.” But Jacob replied, “I will not let you go unless you bless me.”

This event occurred the night before Jacob was to meet his brother Esau, whom he hadn’t seen in over twenty years since he had stolen Esau’s birthright. Esau had become very powerful in those years. Jacob sent his family and belongings ahead and stayed by himself the night before the meeting. During the night, he encountered an angel of the Lord and actually wrestled with the angel so that the angel touched his hip socket and said, “Let me go!” Jacob said, “I won’t let you go until you bless me!” He was saying, “I Need The Blessing!”

Jacob walked with a limp for the rest of his life, but two things happened that night. Jacob was given a name change from Jacob, which means “Deceiver,” to “Israel,” which means “Struggle With God” or “Prince of God.” Either way, the name given Jacob that night became the name of the twelve tribes of Israel. Certainly, the nation of Israel has struggled with God yet has been God’s prince of nations since that time. How did this happen? It started with Jacob wrestling with the angel. You could call it “Jacob’s Struggle With God.” Yet it culminated with a blessing from God for Jacob. The blessing was that God no longer saw Jacob as a “Deceiver.” Instead, God saw Jacob as his young “Prince!” The second thing that happened was that because of the blessing Jacob received from the Lord, he approached his brother the next day with confidence, and everything turned out in Jacob’s favor. Whatever it is you’re facing this AM, let the Lord know, “I Need The Blessing!”

Dear Jesus,

I have two things I want to say this AM. First, thank You for everything You have done in and through me. Second, “I Need The Blessing!” Amen
