Here’s How It Works

S. O. A. P.

Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!

Romans 1:25

They exchanged the truth about God for a lie, and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator—who is forever praised. Amen.

In his letter to the Romans, Paul aptly lays out the history of humanity’s refusal to go with their conscience. “Here’s How It Works.”  As has been stated in this devotional on many occasions, the human conscience helps us do good; however, human will before salvation in Christ is bent to do evil because of Adam’s sin. When this happens, humans get worse and not better. They exchange their worship of the one true God for a lie and instead worship gods made by mortal hands.

In this passage of scripture and the entirety of the first chapter in the letter to the Romans, Paul lays out humanity’s predicament. Because of a natural bend towards evil, humans don’t get better and better, but instead, they get worse and worse. Because there is no redemptive power outside of Jesus Christ. As hard as humans try to redeem themselves, they only find themselves deeper in a pit of sin. A person may try to lift himself or herself, but only Jesus can pull them out. Once Jesus is given a chance, sin’s cycle is finally broken in the person’s life. If Jesus is never called upon by an individual or a society, that society and those individuals will only grow worse and worse. So “Here’s How It Works.” Humanity’s only real hope is in Jesus Christ.

Dear Jesus,

I’m so blessed this AM to know that I was told many years ago: “How It All Works.” Because I was, my life’s journey was settled long ago. Even when I’ve failed, I still know “How It All Works” and have been able to get up and keep going! Amen
