Have Fun

S. O. A. P.

Here’s your 90 second AM devotional!

S-cripture

1 Timothy 6:17

Command those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, but to put their hope in God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment.

O-bservation

The folks who are rich are commanded in this passage not to put their hope in their wealth or get a “Big Head,” as if they had made it happen. Rather our hope, at whatever level we’re living, should be in the Lord. It’s Jesus who has provided us with everything for our enjoyment. So … “Have Fun.”

A-pplication

I have been Rich my whole life, thanks to my mother who named me Rich. But that’s not the kind of rich that the Apostle is speaking of here. He’s speaking about the accumulation of great wealth in this life, resulting in being labeled “rich” by others. As in “He’s a RICH person,” vs. “There goes ‘Rich,’ the poor guy doesn’t have a dime!”  Whether we have “great means” or “very little” we are called by God to enjoy life. Have fun. I spoke with a man recently who over the past five years has lost $60 million! He then said, I have more than enough to live on and take care of my family and for the first time in my life I’m debt-free!! As I spoke with them I heard the joy in his voice. I could tell that he was actually having fun in life. Here’s a man in his late 70s finally having fun. As I hung up I thought … “Instead of his money having him, he finally has his money. Most of all God has him and he’s actually having fun.”

P-rayer

Dear Jesus,

I know it’s Your will for me to look to You as my source, and not to money as if money could somehow save me and take care of me. Only you can save and satisfy. Because of that I’m having fun. Amen
