God Listens To US!
S. O. A. P.
Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!
S-cripture:
Deuteronomy 9:19
I feared the anger and wrath of the Lord, for he was angry enough with you to destroy you. But again the Lord listened to me.
O-bservation:
These are the words of Moses after he had come off of the mountain with the stone tablets in his hands which carried the Ten Commandments. When he saw the sin of the people in worshipping the golden calf, he threw the tablets down and crushed them. God had told him that the people had so angered Him that He wanted to destroy them all and begin a new line through Moses, but Moses said to the people that he prayed to the Lord on their behalf, and the Lord listened to him.
A-pplication:
Of course, most of us know the story that Moses had to make, with his own hands, a second set of stone tablets, and that God forgave the people of their sin and helped them possess their Promised Land under the leadership of Joshua. But this key thought remains from this story: when we pray, “God Listens To US!” I’m not going to say that God changed His mind. I’m not going to argue that Moses actually talked God away from the edge. In fact, I don’t know how it all works after all of these years of following Jesus and studying His Word and researching ancient texts. I just don’t know. BUT … one thing I know is that when we really pray, “God Listens To US!”
P-rayer:
Dear Jesus,
This AM, I keep doing this because, after all these many years of following You, I know You actually listen to this finite peanut when I pray to You. I’m crying now. Amen
