Escape Routes

S. O. A. P.

Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!

S-cripture:

Psalm 124:7

We have escaped like a bird from the fowler’s snare; the snare has been broken, and we have escaped.

O-bservation:

King David discussed the Lord’s continual protection over Israel in this Psalm. He used the metaphor of a bird escaping the fowler’s snare to illustrate the many “Escape Routes” God had provided for Israel over the years.

A-pplication:

Whenever I read this Psalm, I’m reminded of the words of the Apostle Paul in 1 Corinthians 10:13, when he said, “God will always provide an “Escape Route” for us when the enemy tries to put too much on us” (paraphrase). A fowler’s snare is a trap set for a bird. Usually the snare works, but here God reminds all of us that just because the devil thinks he has us doesn’t mean he will be successful. I have talked to so many folks who have said to me, “I made a mistake when I didn’t take the ‘Escape Route’ God had made available for me. Of course I’m speaking of temptation they eventually yielded to. God is the Master of providing “Escape Routes” for His people. The question all of us must address as “Jesus Followers” is: Are we really looking for a way to escape the trap the devil has set for each of us, or will we take the easy way out and yield to his temptation?

P-rayer:

As I head to my post this AM, I am not expecting trouble. However, if the enemy of my soul should set a trap for me I will be alert and awake for Your “Escape Routes!” Amen
