S-cripture:

Exodus 33:14

The Lord replied, “My Presence will go with you, and I will give you rest.”

O-bservation:

This statement by the Lord happened after the great sin of Israel, while Moses was on Mt. Carmel receiving the Law the first time. Moses was infuriated with the people and broke the stone tablets. 3,000 folks died as a direct result of their sin. Moses appealed to God to forgive them. God said He would, but He would not go with them into the Promised Land (Ex. 33:8). Now, as Moses prepared to go up to Mt. Carmel again, God said, “My Presence will go with you.”

A-pplication:

This short synopsis of a gigantic event in the history of Israel begs the question, “Does God Change His Mind?” My initial answer would be yes. However, let’s don’t use those actual words. The argument from many theologians and scholars would suggest that if God changes His mind, it shows that He is limited in some way. The way I like to answer this question is simply that our loving, Heavenly Father responds to the earnest prayers of His people. Prayer changes things! You can get into theological arguments and actual fights with religious people over these kinds of discussions, but the truth is that God responds to the prayers of His people. Have you ever been up against a problem you couldn’t shake on your own? Did you pray? Did things change in a positive way for you? If your answer is yes then you tell me, “Does God Change His Mind?”

Dear Jesus,

I thank You that You respond to my prayers. I will not question You. I have only been called to trust You. Amen
