S-cripture:
Hebrews 12:16
See that no one is sexually immoral, or is godless like Esau, who for a single meal sold his inheritance rights as the oldest son.
O-bservation:
When the writer of Hebrews speaks with a directive concerning sexual immorality to “We The Followers of Christ,” he is speaking of appetites gone wrong. The simple fact that the story of Esau is referenced is the clue. Esau came in from a “Hunt” one day and was so famished he told his brother Jacob that he would trade his “Birthright” for a bowl of Jacobs’s soup. And he did.
A-pplication:
Sexual Immorality as well as any other kind of sin is usually connected to an APPETITE that is way out of balance. There are different kinds of gluttony. The gluttony for food, sex, money, and power is all about imbalanced living. In no way am I promoting an altering of this verse. But the truth is that when appetites within us go un-refrained, sin is present. Why trade your destiny for a bowl of soup, or a one-night stand, or one more sip, or one more trip? The Bible says, “wherever sin is abounding grace is more abounding” (Romans 5:20). In other words, there is enough GRACE to … “Curb Your Appetite.”
P-rayer:
Dear Jesus,
I’m thankful today for the gift you have given all of us … If we will embrace it … I am speaking of the gift of REFRAINING in order to “Curb Our Appetite.” Amen
