Here’s your 90 second AM devotional!
S-cripture:
1 Corinthians 10:24
No one should seek their own good, but the good of others.
O-bservation:
St. Paul had just given quite a lengthy summary of Israel’s failures in the past, and what “Followers of Jesus” should and shouldn’t be like as a result. Then he made a statement that is classic Judeo-Christian ethic. Don’t think of yourself first, but rather put others first … “This Is Bible!”
A-pplication:
Whether you’re speaking of Jewish people or Christian people, the Bible promotes the idea of Others First, me second cover to cover. Moses, Joshua, David, Elisha, Esther, Ruth, Daniel and so many more are classic Old Testament examples of people who served others, and by so doing they were elevated to historical prominence. Every New Testament Disciple, save Judas, was unusual in their willingness to serve Jesus by serving people no matter the cost. And in almost every case they were killed for doing so. I’m blessed to be a part of a local team of “Jesus People” who get excited about serving others. On a daily basis, I watch young adults who promote their friends over themselves and take a back seat when it comes to applause or personal acclaim. And when I see it I think … “This is Bible!”
P-rayer:
Dear Jesus,
Today I am thankful that over 2,000 plus years later the directives from your Word are still being applied and followed. Amen
