Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!
S-cripture:
Luke 12:15
Then he said to them, “Watch out! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; life does not consist in an abundance of possessions.”
O-bservation:
Jesus warned His followers that there would always be those who are convinced that life is measured in material accumulations. Jesus labeled it GREED. This was immediately followed by the story of the man who built bigger barns to store his stuff. Jesus was not happy that he, or anyone else, would ONLY take care of themselves and fail to be generous towards the Kingdom of God.
A-pplication:
GREED turns a person into somewhat of a MONSTER. The reason I say this is because the Stuff someone accumulates tends to cause that person to think that somehow he or she is the sole reason for their success. Once a person believes they are the source of their prosperity, they turn WEIRD. The weirdness results from having to be ones own God! Since we have no record of a Non-Loving, Selfish God, it slowly turns into a Horror Show. The sole character in the show is the individual who believes he or she is the source of their own success and prosperity. Of course this individual is writing the script while they’re running from the only One who can really rescue them from the Horror Show. That would be Jesus. “Greed Monsters” seldom turn to Jesus because they are too afraid to let go of their “Limited Stuff.” That’s why Jesus, while looking at some of the “Greed Monsters” in His own audience, said to His Disciples … “Beware of GREED MONSTERS.”
P-rayer:
Dear Jesus,
With all of my heart this AM, I never want to be a “GREED MONSTER!” Help me be Generous in every way to everyone I meet. I’m yours for anything You want for my life, both now and forever! Amen
