Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!
S-cripture:
1 Kings 7:1
It took Solomon thirteen years, however, to complete the construction of his palace.
O-bservation:
It’s generally accepted that the Prophet Jeremiah wrote the books of 1 Kings and 2 Kings. But I’ll bet Solomon would have been happier if he’d left this one verse out. In the last verse of Chapter 6, the Prophet tells us that Solomon spent 7 years building the Temple of Almighty God. But in the very next verse he tells us it took him thirteen years to build his OWN PALACE!! “Almost Twice As Long!”
A-pplication:
Have you ever thought about how much time we spend on our own stuff, doing our own thing, worrying about us and ours, versus the TIME we allot for The Lord? Solomon was known as the wisest man who ever lived. All he had to do to receive that wisdom was to ask God for it. And yet even he spent so much more time on himself than with or for the Lord. In fact, Scripture tells us he spent so much time indulging himself that he ended badly. I’m reminded of the words of Jesus this AM. “Seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things will be added unto you!” (Mt. 6:33, paraphrase). Perhaps a better idea today would be to spend “Almost Twice As Long” on Jesus’ stuff.
P-rayer:
Dear Jesus,
Today, with Your help, I want to put You first in everything I do. I feel like somehow I’ll have more hours in my day at the end of the day. Amen
