Even Heaven Needs A Break

S. O. A. P.

Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!

S-cripture:

Revelation 8:1

When he opened the seventh seal, there was silence in heaven for about half an hour.

O-bservation:

In the previous chapters (6 & 7),  the seven seals are opened as judgments of God upon the earth for its immeasurable sins against the Almighty. As this chapter begins, the seventh seal was opened, and there was silence in all of heaven for half an hour. It’s almost as if heaven knows what was coming next.

A-pplication:

I can’t tell you the many times I’ve read this chapter in my life, but certainly enough to know what’s there. I’m always amazed that silence filled all of heaven for half an hour. It’s always made me think that “Even Heaven Needs A Break.” That’s what hits me. There are no good answers for this verse, in my opinion, but I believe I have a thought. Sometimes, in the craziness of life and the unending NOISE, perhaps if you could close the door on it today. Maybe you need a break from the stuff that seems always to fill an empty space that you failed to fill. When John saw this vision, he would have seen the Almighty and the King of Kings on his right hand and the twenty-four elders and the countless angelic hosts of heaven all of a sudden come to complete silence for thirty minutes. If heaven took a break, you should too!

P-rayer:

Dear Jesus,

I love You today as every day, but I must say that with your help, I’ll silence myself and shut it down for just a while. I need a break, and I’m sure my friend needs one too! Amen
