We Are A Separated People

S. O. A. P.

Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!

Leviticus 18:3

You must not do as they do in Egypt, where you used to live, and you must not do as they do in the land of Canaan, where I am bringing you. Do not follow their practices.

At the beginning of this chapter, God introduces the thought that His people, the Israelite nation, would be a “Separated People.” God said, “You are leaving behind the way of the Egyptians, and when you enter the land of Canaan, you will not embrace their ways.” Then God went on to reject every form of immorality you can imagine, including incest, adultery, fornication, and homosexuality. The Lord was putting forward the fact that “We Are A Separated People.”

This life of separation doesn’t mean that we refuse to associate or befriend people who live contrary to God’s Word; it simply means that we do not embrace their lifestyle. In the New Testament, St. Paul said it like this. “Do not be yoked together with unbelievers. For what do righteousness and wickedness have in common? … Therefore, ‘Come out from them and be separate, says the Lord. Touch no unclean thing, and I will receive you.’” (2 Cor. 6:14;17) Here Paul reaffirms who we New Testament Jesus followers are to emulate. That being our Old Testament, Jewish forefathers. Never would I suggest that any of us are perfect in our faith, but “We Are A Separated People.”

Dear Jesus,

This is a difficult task You have called Your people to. This life of “Separation” has to do with bridling our passions, yet I know this AM that You will continue to give us the strength as we seek You. Amen
