Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!
S-cripture:
Galatians 5:18
But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law.
O-bservation:
The whole book of Galatians is Paul’s argument for being “Led By The Holy Spirit” instead of being buried by Old Testament Judaic law. He said here, “The only way to get out from underneath the weight of religious law is to be, “Led By The Spirit.”
A-pplication:
I was raised in a Pastor’s home where being “Led By The Spirit” was discussed on a regular basis. I can remember friends of my parents saying, “I felt ‘Led By The Spirit,’ to go here or there or to say this or that.” My father would talk to me about listening for the still small voice of the Lord. He would tell me before I left for school in the AM, “Rich don’t worry about a thing, the Spirit of the Lord will lead you today.” Because of my upbringing, the directives of St. Paul in this passage are very understandable to me. We were never desiring to count on our religion to get us through the day. Instead, we relied on the leading and prompting of the Spirit in our daily walk. Oftentimes in high school, when the pressure was on to yield to temptation, that still small voice of the Spirit would prompt me, “Go this way, don’t go that way.” By listening, I always got out of tight situations. I’m telling you, very little has changed over the years. Now, in my sixth decade, I’m still listening for the Spirit’s direction. I still want to be, “Led By The Spirit.”
P-rayer:
Dear Jesus,
Thank You this AM that You still speak to people of all ages and show them the way to go. With Your help, I always want to be, “Led By The Spirit.” Amen
