How Can I Help You?

S. O. A. P.

Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!

S-cripture:

Mark 10:51a

What do you want me to do for you?” Jesus asked him.

O-bservation:

One day, as Jesus arrived in Jericho, a certain blind man named Bartimaeus called out to Jesus for help. Instead of ignoring him, or making him follow a list of rules in order to be helped, Jesus responded by saying, “How Can I Help You?”

A-pplication:

This response of Jesus to blind Bartimaeus (He healed him BTW) is at the very heart of the Christian Faith. Perhaps you’ve heard that line before … “Blessed to be a Blessing.” In comparison to Christianity, Religion quickly hits you with a list of rules or religious statutes of what’s expected in order to become a full-fledged follower of said Religion. However, the “Follower Of Jesus,” at any phase of his or her walk with Jesus, always begins with a “How Can I Help You?” approach to people. It’s never about what you can do for ME, and always about Serving OTHERS. Jesus started His earthly ministry by serving a better tasting wine at a wedding, 3 1/2 years later people nailed him to a cross. In the process, however, Jesus accumulated such a massive following that today, over 2,000 years later, more than 2 billion people endeavor to live their lives after the pattern Jesus established … “How Can I Help You?”

P-rayer:

Dear Jesus,

From the day You found me, I can always remember Your ever-loving care over my life. I’ve heard You ask me as a boy, and now as a full-on man … “Rich, How Can I Help You?” All I can say is … “I’m Blessed To Be A Blessing!” Amen
