You Can’t Paint Rust!

S. O. A. P.

Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!

Proverbs 28:13

Whoever conceals their sins does not prosper, but the one who confesses and renounces them finds mercy.

The wise man said that the person who conceals their sin would never overcome the need for blessing. However, the person who constantly confesses their sin will continuously find mercy.

My take on this scripture is simply this: whatever is happening on the inside of a person’s life spiritually will eventually show on the outside of a person’s life physically and emotionally. Here’s another way of looking at it. You can’t paint rust! Recently we redid the atrium in the center of our house. It turned out lovely. However, there is a metal electrical cable housing on the wall. Instead of sanding the rust off and then priming the metal housing, the painters just painted it white with the rest of the wall. Now, every day, I look into the atrium, and it’s beautiful except the orange rust bleeding through the fresh white paint. I hope it’s a good metaphor because it reminds me of this verse. If we hide sin on the inside, it eventually bleeds through the outer facade. It’s best to “Just Confess And Find Mercy.” And of course, I’ll have to get that metal housing sanded, primed, and repainted.

Dear Jesus,

Thank You for keeping me clean on the inside. I never want to paint rust in my life! Amen
