You Can Go FIRST

S. O. A. P.

Here’s your 90 second AM devotional!

S-cripture:

Philippians 2:3

Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather in humility value others above yourselves.

O-bservation:

Arrogance and personal agendas are denounced in this passage by St. Paul. Instead, as “Followers of Jesus” we are called to humble ourselves and honor others, not “certain others” but people in general above ourselves.

A-pplication:

The average person can spot a kiss-up from a mile away. And the only ones who can’t are other kisser-uppers. This was not and is not the Jesus way. The person who has his or her own personal agenda is usually on a course that will run over those who get in their way. This was not and is not the Jesus way. The one who struts through life with a head as large as Montana is usually deaf to the voices behind them saying … “Who do they think they are?” This was not and is not the Jesus way. The Jesus way has always been summed up in these four words: “You Can Go FIRST.” Humility and honor always step aside to elevate others. I really know about this stuff. I’ve had the Montana head, the personal agenda, and yes … I’ve been a kiss-up. I’m a lot better than I was, since I learned those four words … “You Can Go FIRST.”

P-rayer:

Dear Jesus,

I know I’m not where I should be, but even I can see a change in me since I learned it’s not about me and my agenda and what I want. It’s about YOU, and loving and honoring those who need to “Go first for ONCE.” Amen
