Here’s your 90 second AM devotional!
S-cripture:
Matthew 15:11
What goes into someone’s mouth does not defile them, but what comes out of their mouth, that is what defiles them.
O-bservation:
While Jesus walked on the earth, his major nemeses were the Pharisees. They were the keepers and promoters of the Jewish law. He had just finished a debate with them, when he called the crowd and his disciples together. He said in effect, “What comes into your stomach through your mouth is not what makes you impure, what comes out of your heart through the mouth is what makes you impure.”
A-pplication:
Our WORDS equal our “True Colors.” In other WORDS … what we say on a regular basis tells those around us who we really are. It has been said, “You can fool some of the people some of the time, but you can’t fool all of the people all of the time.” One’s stomach has little to do with one’s morality, but one’s heart has everything to do with one’s morality. The heart, in a spiritual sense, is the place where your decisions are made. If you fill your heart with GOOD and GOD … good stuff will come out of your mouth. Today, “Good Stuff” coming out of people’s mouths is a rarity. In fact, when your GOOD comes out people may ask … “What Are You Talking About?”
P-rayer:
Dear Jesus,
Help me today to keep my heart cleaned out. I want to please You by making sure GOOD things come out of my mouth. My “True Colors” must be all about You. Amen
