Watch Out For Condescenders

S. O. A. P.

Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!

John 7:52

They replied, “Are you from Galilee, too? Look into it, and you will find that a prophet does not come out of Galilee.”

The Pharisee leaders rebuked Nicodemus, who argued on behalf of the Lord’s authenticity while being questioned if a prophet, such as Jesus, could come out of Galilee. They said it was impossible. They were basing this on their understanding of Micah 5:2. But Jesus fulfilled that passage by being born in Bethlehem. Those very Pharisees who argued their point of view missed Isaiah 9:1, where the prophet said Galilee would be highly honored by the Almighty.

Anytime the room fills up with a bunch of “know it alls,” you can bet the CONDESCENSION has begun. Those who condescend to others make themselves out to be better than you and me. They feel they have to stoop down to our level of scholarship to tolerate our lack of intelligence. But those who condescend towards others out of personal arrogance always miss something in the mix of it all. When the lawyer, Nicodemus, questioned the Pharisees out of his love for Jesus, he knew the scripture. These “know it alls” fired back, forgetting the prophecy of Isaiah 9:1. Of course, by this time, Jesus had left the building. He left in His place a great lawyer to stand up for Him, knowing that the Pharisees would mess up, and they did. Any time you’re around someone who lets you know they’re better than you, remember, “Watch Out For Condescenders!”

Dear Jesus,

All I know is, You’re better than me, and anyone else is my fellow human no matter how they treat me! Amen
