Here’s your 90 second AM devotional!
S-cripture:
Malachi 4:6
He will turn the hearts of the parents to their children, and the hearts of the children to their parents; or else I will come and strike the land with total destruction.
O-bservation:
The Prophet Malachi ends the entire Old Testament with a prophecy concerning the coming of a new Elijah, namely the forerunner of Christ—John the Baptist. And he said that John the Baptist would prepare the way for the Messiah, who would bring healing to the family. He said the children’s hearts would turn toward their parents and the parent’s hearts would turn toward their children. Last of all, he prophesied that if this didn’t happen, total destruction would come to the land.
A-pplication:
The Old Testament ends with the words “total destruction.” Another translation uses the word “Curse.” Judea was an area where the people totally rejected the Messiah, Jesus. And indeed at that time destruction did come upon that territory. But the bigger story here is the story of the power of Jesus to “Turn The Hearts” of angry and broken and hurting people not only back to God but also toward each other through love. After this prophecy was given, there was no recorded word from heaven for over 400 years! Then John the Baptist came, preparing the way for Jesus. Now, over 2,000 years later, more than 2 billion people worldwide claim Jesus Christ as Savior!! When hearts are at war, there’s only one hope; His name is Jesus. Only Jesus can … “Turn The Hearts.”
P-rayer:
Dear Jesus,
Thank You for taking the anger and bitterness and hurt away from my heart. Thank You that long ago You “Turned My Heart.” Amen
