Here’s your 90 second AM devotional!
S-cripture:
Leviticus 27:30
A tithe of everything from the land, whether grain from the soil or fruit from the trees, belongs to the Lord; it is holy to the Lord.
O-bservation:
Here once again Moses promotes the Old Testament law of tithing for the Jewish people. He tells the people that a tenth or a tithe of everything belongs to the Lord. Not only that but the tithe is holy to the Lord.
A-pplication:
I hear “Followers of Jesus” often debate the issue of tithing. Some say that it’s strictly an Old Testament law and we’re New Testament people living in the “Age of Grace.” While it is true that tithing is not required in the New Testament, it certainly is a good place to start when it comes to being generous. Jesus said, “I didn’t come to abolish the law I came to fulfill it” (Matthew 5:17). Many believers today, when they argue that tithing isn’t required in the New Testament, fail to mention that the custom of the Early Church was that everyone had everything in common (Acts 2:44, 45). Most believers I know aren’t willing to operate that way AT ALL! I think it’s safe to say that today God probably requires “Tithing And Even More.” Whatever you do, don’t get stingy with God. Be generous! Because generosity is our privilege.
P-rayer:
Dear Jesus,
I want to say to everyone who will hear me … “You own it all!” And I’m thankful that You let me manage a little piece of Your stuff. Amen
