They’re Under CONTROL

1 Corinthians 14:32
The spirits of prophets are subject to the control of prophets.
St. Paul used this chapter to discuss the gifts and workings of the Holy Spirit within the context of a church gathering. In bringing it to a close, he said that every gift a prophet had was subject to the control of the prophet. In other words, prophets or people blessed with a gift were never to be known as out of control. Instead, the church knew “They’re Under Control.”
I’ve been in church meetings before where a gift or even gifts were displayed in the service in a beautiful way. There was a natural, spiritual flow to what was going on and those gifts enhanced the service and drew people’s attention to Jesus. On the other hand, I have been in meetings that I was not leading, and they were totally out of control. The people in charge called it being led of the Spirit. But I call it drawing the attention off of Jesus and on to the person. When that happens, trouble is sure to follow. Men and women of God are never called upon by the Lord to go completely nuts in a gathering of believers and call that spiritual. No! That’s out of control, and that’s not God’s will. When you speak of real men and women of God, “They’re Under Control.”
I am thankful for spiritual gifts. I’m thankful that I’ve been blessed with spiritual gifts, but please help me offer my gifts in a way that puts all attention on Jesus and draws people closer to God. Amen
