They Still Do It Today

S-cripture:
Acts 14:2
But the Jews who refused to believe stirred up the other Gentiles and poisoned their minds against the brothers.
O-bservation:
This is the story of Paul and Barnabas in Iconium. Once there, as usual, they went to the Jewish synagogue to speak. They were so effective the scripture says that many Jews and Gentiles turned to the faith. But some Jewish leaders, who did not want to receive this fresh move of God, stirred up the Gentiles, and the scripture says, “Poisoned Their Minds” against Paul and Barnabas.
A-pplication:
These men were so intent on dividing the work of God that they intended to harm Paul and Barnabas, who literally had to run to another city for fear of their lives. Much later in his ministry, Paul wrote to the church at Rome. “Mark those who cause divisions and offenses and avoid them!” (Rom. 16:17). He didn’t say to MARK those who are guilty of FORNICATION. No, he said, “MARK those who cause DIVISION.” Why? Because the work of the gospel ceases in a given church or location when men and women decide to cause division. Paul spoke to those who were guilty of it in his day, but “They Still Do It Today.”
P-rayer:
Dear Jesus,
Lord, may I never be guilty of instigating DIVISION in your church. Please help me to be the one who fights for agreement. Help me keep “The unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.” Amen
