They Did It Anyway
S. O. A. P.
Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!
S-cripture:
Jeremiah 43:7a
So they entered Egypt in disobedience to the Lord.
O-bservation:
This is an unusual passage based on the background leading up to the people of Judah disobeying the Lord again. There was a remnant of Israelites left in Judah after King Nebuchadnezzar ransacked the place. One of their leaders named Johanan, along with other army officers, asked Jeremiah what to do. Jeremiah said, “Don’t flee to Egypt but stay right here and serve King Nebuchadnezzar and you will find peace.” But they told Jeremiah he was lying about not going to Egypt and “They Did It Anyway.”
A-pplication:
This is an amazing story as Johanan and his officials sought the man of God Jeremiah out to ask him what the Lord was saying. Jeremiah told them what God said, but when he told them not to flee to Egypt “They Did It Anyway.” Has there ever been a time in your life when you were seeking direction and you knew what not to do but “You Did It Anyway?” This will always be a continual temptation to the people of God. St. Paul said, “I do not understand what I do. For what I want to do I do not do, but what I hate I do” (Rom. 7:15). It is only through the power of the Holy Spirit that you and I can ever really “Find Freedom.” Join me today in asking the Lord what to do, and then, when He tells us, let’s do what He says.
P-rayer:
Dear Jesus,
I’m so grateful this AM for another chance. I know there have been times when You directed me on what not to do and “I Did It Anyway.” But You have always forgiven me. With Your help today, I will do what You tell me to do. Amen
