Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!
S-cripture:
Matthew 20:26
Not so with you. Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant.
O-bservation:
These are the words of Jesus, while speaking to His disciples. James and John’s mother had asked Him if her boys could sit on either side of Him in heaven. Jesus told her this decision would be left to the Father. Then He spoke about the difference between them and how the earthly order of hierarchy operates. He said the Gentiles Lord their authority over you, but this is not the way for you. He said those who would follow Him would have to be servant to everyone else. In Jesus’ world, “There’s Only One Way To the Top.”
A-pplication:
The Jesus way always considers the other person first. We always open the door for the other guy. Our way is to make room at the table for the guy who has no place, even if it means giving ours up. We’re the first to raise a hand, and the first to say, “I’ll help.” Our “yeses” outweigh our “nos” all day every day. It becomes fulfilling the harder and the quieter we serve because we know we have the full attention of the one we’re playing to. For us, the bottom of the hierarchy is the finest place to begin. We know that there’s only one way to go. That would be Up! It’s our joy, our desire, and most of all our fulfillment to serve. When someone asks you, “What you have learned as a Jesus Follower?” Just tell them, “There’s Only One Way To The Top.”
P-rayer:
Dear Jesus,
Serving you is my highest honor. You’ve taught me that I can always go lower. When I do, somehow I feel lifted up. When I think about it, I realize it’s you that is holding me up. I’m in it until you call for me. Amen
