The Great Task

S. O. A. P.

Here’s your 90 second AM devotional!

S-cripture:

Acts 20:24

However, I consider my life worth nothing to me; My only aim is to finish the race and complete the task the Lord Jesus has given me – the task of testifying to the Good News of God’s Grace.

O-bservation:

Paul the Apostle is nearing the end. He publicly states to his friends and co-workers in Ephesus, who he is saying goodbye to for the last time, “It’s not about me and never has been. My final journey is about ‘The Great Task’ of never ceasing to be a witness of the Good News of God’s Grace! I must continue ‘The Great Task.’”

A-pplication:

As “Followers of Jesus,” we must continually be awakened to the things that really matter most. That’s what Paul is talking about in this passage. Earlier he said, “I count my life as ‘DUNG’ that I may win Christ” (Phil. 3:8, paraphrase). He also said, “When I became a man I put childish things away” (1 Cor. 13:11). For Paul it was imperative that the Elders of the Church embraced this same mission. God will make a way where there is no way. Our purpose must not include self-promotion. For after all … we are nothing outside of Christ! So once again, our purpose and what matters most—no matter what we do to earn money—is to embrace … “The Great Task.”

P-rayer:

Dear Jesus,

Once again today, I am reminded that I am a “Follower of Jesus.” Whatever men may think of me matters little. I affirm my promise to You that I will embrace “The Great Task” of getting this Good News to everyone … Jesus You are Lord! Amen
