Show Me What You’ve Got

S. O. A. P.

Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!

S-cripture:

1 Corinthians 4:20 For the kingdom of God is not a matter of talk but of power.

O-bservation:

Paul the Great Apostle defended his apostolic authority in this chapter. He made it very clear that many folks talk about the Christian walk, but others actually deliver with power and signs following.

A-pplication:

You’ve heard it said before, “Talk Is Cheap!” Anyone can talk about what God can do, others go into action and actually deliver the goods in the power of God’s might. When that occurs, there’s a whole lotta questions that don’t have to be asked because people have witnessed with their own eyes the power of God. Paul was a man who had raised people from the dead, cast out demons in Jesus' name, and seen miracle after miracle take place. When false preachers with silver-lined speech came calling, this Apostle would simply say ... “Show Me What You’ve Got!”

P-rayer:

Dear Jesus, I only want to please You this AM. I’m not moving forward with a great speech, instead I’m moving forward serving a great and mighty God! Amen

Why Not You Too?

S. O. A. P.

Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!

S-cripture:

Jeremiah 1:5 “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.”

O-bservation:

With these words, God is calling a young Jeremiah to fulfill his role as a prophet to the nations. He tells him He knew him before he was born, and He set Jeremiah apart even then for a great purpose.

A-pplication:

Certainly this was the direct call of the Almighty God of Israel upon young Jeremiah to be a prophet. There is no denying this fact. However, how do you read it? Why is this prophecy not for you? Every "Follower of Jesus," be they male or female, can read this prophecy to Jeremiah and say, "I know God knew me in my mothers womb." They can also say, "I believe God loved me so much that He set me apart for something special." Most of all, we've all been called to go into all the world and preach the gospel, so "I believe God has called me as a prophet to the nations." I believe each one of these things has happened to me in my lifetime, in a LIMITED way. So, "Why Not You Too?"

P-rayer:

Dear Jesus, I'm thankful You still call Prophets today. Amen

Don’t Talk

S. O. A. P.

Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!

S-cripture:

Zephaniah 1:7a Be silent before the Sovereign Lord, for the day of the Lord is near.

O-bservation:

Here Zephaniah is warning the people of God, who have turned away from the Lord, of impending judgment to come. He tells them that to be in the presence of the Sovereign Lord, in this case, simply means "Don't Talk!"

A-pplication:

Let's move this to our present time. We know the scripture tells us to "Seek the Lord while he may be found" (Is. 55:6). It also says "Call to me and I will answer you" (Jer. 33:3). So there is definite precedent set in scripture to speak to the Lord in prayer. However, there are definitely times where the situation just demands that we "Don't Talk." Some of my most wonderful times with Jesus have been the times when I never said a word. The reason why we "Don't Talk" in the Lord’s presence is not always because He's upset with our actions. More often than not, just His sheer magnificence is amazing to behold when in solitude with Him. Try it the next time you're in Jesus' presence, just ... "Don't Talk!"

P-rayer:

Dear Jesus, This AM I'm here to not say a word, but just to be with You. Amen

Wait For It

S. O. A. P.

Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!

S-cripture:

Habakkuk 2:3 For the revelation awaits an appointed time; it speaks of the end and will not prove false. Though it linger, wait for it; it will certainly come and will not delay.

O-bservation:

This was a prophecy that, at the time, even confused the Prophet. But in speaking of the end, and the future calamities of those who do not follow Jesus, he was absolutely correct. All there is to do is ... "Wait For It!"

A-pplication:

Now I'd like to do a 180 on you with this passage. What about you? What about your dreams, your visions, your desired outcomes? The truth is, the Bible tells us that God wants to give us the very desires of our heart if we put Him first (Ps. 37:4). In fact, why would God give you a vision if He didn't want you to have it? In order to have it, you'll have to put everything you have into achieving this dream. Long hours, long strategies, sacrifices, and willpower. However, if you're willing to do the heavy lifting God will do the part you can't do. Just "Wait For It!"

P-rayer:

Dear Jesus, I'm not giving up on my dreams! You have them, I'm going to strive to reach them, and then "Wait For It!" Amen

Jesus OK, But Jesse?

S. O. A. P.

Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!

S-cripture:

Isaiah 11:1 A shoot will come up from the stump of Jesse; from his roots a Branch will bear fruit.

O-bservation:

Approximately 700 years before Jesus was born, Isaiah the Prophet predicted it would happen in this passage. Just as remarkable, Isaiah reaches approximately 300 years back in time to say that Jesus' forefather would be a man named Jesse, who obviously was in the grave already.

A-pplication:

Both of these predictions are absolutely impossible except for the providence of God directing the pen of the Prophet. I suppose we can all agree, since it's after the fact, that it happened. And it's Amazing! But the thing that amazes me the most is, "Jesus OK, But Jesse?" I mean it's all an impossible prediction outside of divine intervention, but why didn't the Prophet just say David instead of saying David's father's name, Jesse? The more I think about it this AM, I'm convinced it was just the Lord putting the cherry on top of the cake. Jesus knows all things knowable in your world and mine. Even if it's 300 years back or 700 years ahead ... He's got you!

P-rayer:

Dear Jesus, This AM I am marveling at Your infinite understanding. But why should I? You're the One who invented the word UNDERSTANDING! Amen
