PRAISE BREAK

S. O. A. P.

Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!

S-cripture:

Psalm 35:18 I will give you thanks in the great assembly; among the throngs I will praise you.

O-bservation:

For the most part, Psalm 35 is a deep cry from King David's heart to God. He appeals to his Heavenly Father to step up on his behalf against his oppressors from verses 1-17 and from verse 19 to the end of the chapter. However, in this one verse, verse 18, David stops the crying in order to Praise and Thank the Lord. He not only does this in Church but also in the Marketplace.

A-pplication:

"Followers of Jesus" are not unlike everyone else on the planet. Every person alive has a continual series of challenges that has to do with the "Fall of Man" in the "Garden of Eden." What makes us different from the rest of the human race is that we have spiritual weapons we can employ should we choose to use them. Two of those weapons are mentioned here. They are: GRATITUDE and PRAISE. In the middle of every evil force David was facing, he stopped. It's like he took a "Praise Break." The words of this verse seem so Out Of Place in the context of the whole chapter. Yet, this chapter typifies our very existence today. At every point, we are desperate for Our Father's intervention. So don't forget to ... "Stop And Praise Him." In fact, now would be a great time for a "PRAISE BREAK!"

P-rayer:

Dear Jesus, I just have two things to say this AM. Thank You and Praise You!! Amen

The Lord Has Been Good To Me

S. O. A. P.

Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!

S-cripture:

Psalm 13:6 I will sing the Lord’s praise, for he has been good to me.

O-bservation:

For the first four verses of this Psalm of David, King David cries out to God as to how long before God will hear his cry. Then in verse 5 he gives up begging and starts praising the Lord. He finishes by saying, “The Lord Has Been Good To Me!”

A-pplication:

I wonder what would happen if we humans would stop complaining, begging, and accusing Jesus, and start praising him instead? You are reading this devotional on day +20 but, I’m writing this soap devotional on day +14 of my stem cell transplant. That means as of this writing that it’s been fourteen days since I had the transplant. But before any of this happened the Dr’s told us we wouldn’t see my blood start to move upward until day +14 and that is exactly what happened! Last night Robyn and I had communion together and asked the Lord to make the Dr’s prediction come to pass. And guess what? Jesus did it! That’s why I say… “The Lord Has Been Good To Me!”

P-rayer:

Dear Jesus, I have no complaints, or begs, or accusations for you this AM. NO! Only high praise and admiration for my wonderful Lord and Savior. Truly you have been good to me! Amen

Honor Or Praise?

S. O. A. P.

Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!

S-cripture:

Acts 14:15 Friends, why are you doing this? We too are only human, like you. We are bringing you good news, telling you to turn from these worthless things to the living God, who made the heavens and the earth and the sea and everything in them.

O-bservation:

While preaching in a place called Lystra, Paul healed a man who was crippled. When the people saw them, they began to worship Paul & Barnabas as Greek gods. They called them Zeus and Hermes. When they did this, Paul & Barnabas tore their clothes in humility and said, “NO! Don’t do this. We are only human like you and are here to bring you good news.”

A-pplication:

Those who know me well know that honor is a real big deal for me. I want to honor all of God’s men and women. I believe there is something good in most all people, and one can choose to promote that as a way of honor. But the idea of praising a man or a woman is not the will of God in any way. The people mentioned in this story were praising these Apostles, and they would have nothing to do with it! We must honor all of God’s human race but praise only HIM!

P-rayer:

Dear Jesus, Today, once again, I choose to honor Your human creation but praise only You. Only YOU deserve the glory and the praise! Amen

My Heart Is Steadfast!

S. O. A. P.

Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!

S-cripture:

Psalm 108:1 My heart, O God, is steadfast; I will sing and make music with all my soul.

O-bservation:

King David prayed to God that his heart, the place in his life where his choices were made, was STEADFAST. He said he would SING God’s praise from the deep recesses of his soul (his mind and personality).

A-pplication:

I love how David was “All In” with giving God glory. His triune being—body, soul, and mind—were in sync when it came to PRAISE. He was like a marathon runner who trains year round for that big race. It consumes him. Yes, he has a family. Yes, she has a job. Yes, they have financial responsibilities. But RUNNING is always in the back of their minds. For David, PRAISING was always in the back, front, and middle of his mind. Did he fail at times, have regrets, or wish he could have hit rewind? Yes, yes, and YES! However, in the end he could still say ... “My Heart Is STEADFAST.”

P-rayer:

Dear Jesus, Help me today to be STEADFAST in my heart toward You! I pray that PRAISING Jesus will always be in the back, front, and middle of my mind. Amen

But What About My Country?

S. O. A. P.

Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!

S-cripture:

Psalm 131:3 Israel, put your hope in the Lord both now and forevermore.

O-bservation:

It was the cry of David’s heart that he, as the monarch of Israel, would somehow see his country always hoping and trusting in the Lord for their help. So his Psalm is a command to his own people.

A-pplication:

Whenever I read this passage I’m thrilled for Israel, but my first thought is always, “But What About My Country?” I’m sure that wherever you’re reading this from you have a similar response. The first thing to be noted is that as much as David wanted to force his people to depend on the Lord, you can’t force worship! Worship and service of the Lord is one person’s decision and theirs alone. The second idea is that the Word of God is all-encompassing for all time and for all nations. As much as God Loves Israel, He also loves every nation and peoples He has created. No matter how troubled our respective nations may be, God Loves us and God will see us through. We must believe that He really does have the whole world in His hands.

P-rayer:

Dear Jesus, I’m so very very thankful that you care about the challenges our collective countries are facing. We’ll never stop praying. You are our hope! Amen
