The Fear of the Lord

S. O. A. P.

Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!

S-cripture:

Deuteronomy 5:29 (NIV)
"Oh, that their hearts would be inclined to fear me and keep all my commands always, so that it might go well with them and their children forever!"

O-bservation:

God expresses His desire for His people to fear Him and keep His commands. He desires their obedience not out of fear of punishment, but out of reverence and respect for Him. God promises that obedience to His commands will bring blessings not only to the current generation but also to their descendants.

A-pplication:

This passage encourages me to nurture a profound reverence for the Lord in my hearts. It prompts me to recognize God's authority and sovereignty, submitting myself to His will and obeying His commands out of reverence and love. As I walk in obedience to God, I can trust in His promises of blessings for me and for future generations.

P-rayer:

Dear Jesus, Grant me the wisdom and strength to walk in obedience to you, Lord, trusting in your faithfulness and goodness. Amen

Do What You Say

S. O. A. P.

Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!

S-cripture:

Ezekiel 33:31 My people come to you, as they usually do, and sit before you to hear your words, but they do not put them into practice. Their mouths speak of love, but their hearts are greedy for unjust gain.

O-bservation:

Here the Lord has a conversation about His own people, the people of Israel. He tells Ezekiel that he sees Israel go and listen to Ezekiel, and they say nice things about love, but their hearts are full of greed.

A-pplication:

Obviously God was speaking of His own beloved wayward sons and daughters in this passage. People who were completely phony in their hearts, but who still loved the Prophet’s preaching style. Perhaps it made them think of their childhood upbringing. Yet they had no desire whatsoever to change their ways or follow the Almighty. They said one thing but lived another. I believe that all of us should be awakened to righteousness when we read this passage, and simply "Do What You Say!"

P-rayer:

Dear Jesus, This AM I'm asking you to help me live what I proclaim to be. Amen

When Hearts Are Stolen

S. O. A. P.

Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!

S-cripture:

2 Samuel 15:13 A messenger came and told David, “The hearts of the people of Israel are with Absalom.”

O-bservation:

Absalom, King David’s son, had stolen the hearts of a good portion of the Israeli people while his father was busy on the job. It had been a slow, continual strategic plan on the part of the young man to split his father’s kingdom, and most likely have his father killed. It was at this point that a messenger came to David to let him know the hearts of the people had moved away from David and into the hands of his rebel son, Absalom.

A-pplication:

Perhaps in your life you have experienced something similar, yet on a much smaller scale. What do you do “When Hearts Are Stolen?” That’s exactly what happened in this story. David’s son had skillfully sown seeds of discord, and question, and all-out lies concerning his father so that he STOLE the hearts of the people. Here’s what David did. First, he believed the report of the messenger and got out of town. Sometimes God sends folks to warn us, and we don’t pay attention. Second, he properly vetted those he believed were with him and secured their safe passage with him. It may be time to ask your friends and associates if they are with you. Third, he had the Ark of God returned to Jerusalem by his priests saying, “It’s in God’s hands now.” In the end, we must be willing to go with God and not our own emotions. Because of David’s diligence in these matters, he lost his beloved rebellious son but won the day. This story reminds us that all hope is not lost.

P-rayer:

Dear Jesus, I’m thankful today that You have afforded me a leadership position in Your wonderful family. Help me to remain awake to what is happening around me. May I be a blessing to You today is my prayer. Amen

We Must WIN Their Hearts

S. O. A. P.

Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!

S-cripture:

2 Samuel 19:14
He won over the hearts of the men of Judah so that they were all of one mind. They sent word to the king, “Return, you and all your men.”

O-bservation:

David had been banished from his own palace and kingdom by his rebellious son, Absalom. No one would have given him a chance to defeat his own son, but he did. At this point the part of the country that had followed Absalom was in confusion, but Judah, where the king’s palace was, was definitely confused because David had fled for his life from there. The people of Judah were afraid to do anything. But David sent a humbling and loving word to the leaders of Judah. When they heard it, they welcomed him back home.

A-pplication:

How did David pull this off? He pulled it off based upon his relationship with his people. He loved them, and he knew how to win their hearts over. Everything begins with relationship. When you have relationship with a friend, you know what it takes to move your friend emotionally. You know what they appreciate. You never come on hard to someone you want in your camp. Instead you connect with them on common ground. When you do, a certain heart string is struck, and the sound is a familiar one. That’s what David did, and that’s what we must do. “We Must WIN Their Hearts!”

P-rayer:

Dear Jesus, Help me to appeal to people’s hearts first. I know the mind is important, but let people feel that I care for them. Amen

Impress Them On Your Children

S. O. A. P.

Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!

S-cripture:

Deuteronomy 6:6-7a These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. Impress them on your children.

O-bservation:

Moses had just promoted the Ten Commandments to the Children of Israel. And then there continued to be words from God to the people as to what these laws would mean to future generations. Moses told the people these laws are to be continually on your hearts AND you must “Impress Them on Your Children.”

A-pplication:

Everywhere I go, people ask me about my children. The key question they ask, knowing that I am in the ministry, is how did you and your wife lead your sons to the Lord and into the work of the Lord. I can never fully, in a detailed way, describe what we did with “How To Do It, Daily Lists,” but I can tell you this: the Word of God was the centerpiece of our home. The love of Jesus and the need for people to be willing to tell people about Jesus was everything. The grace of God was lived out in our home as we saw God work miracles. The two older boys saw the Lord raise their little brother Graham up from being lifeless. God’s Word, God’s Grace, and God’s Miracles left our sons impressed with Jesus. My wife and I don’t know much, but we do know that the words and miracles of Jesus never fail. “Impress Them on Your Children!”

P-rayer:

Dear Jesus, I ask that You allow Robyn and me to assist our grown children in Impressing the Words and Acts of Jesus on our Grandchildren. Amen
