Who Is A God Like YOU?

S. O. A. P.

Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!

S-cripture:

Micah 7:18 Who is a God like you, who pardons sin and forgives the transgression of the remnant of his inheritance? You do not stay angry forever but delight to show mercy.

O-bservation:

Here we see the Prophet Micah standing back and giving praise to our great God at the end of his prophecy. Micah saw the mess all around him. He saw the consequences of Israel's sin and had prophesied her punishment, but he also saw God's forgiveness and willingness to bring Israel back into prominence.

A-pplication:

Micah was right. There is no God like our wonderful Lord! When I was little, I would mess up or disobey and my Father would discipline me. He was never smiling when he disciplined me. In fact, a couple of times he cried over me, but my Father loved me too much to stay upset with me. Within minutes he would say, "Hey Rich you want to go get some ice cream, or you want to go play catch?" Discipline is a part of love, but it's never at the heart of love. What's at the heart of love is love. God shows us love over and over again, and it just never ends. Undeniably sin carries its own wallop, but if we are truly repentant the next thing we hear out of God’s heart is something like, "Hey, you wanna get some ice cream?" He just doesn't stay angry. Really ... "Who Is A God Like You?"

P-rayer:

Dear Jesus, I'm always amazed by You! Your love just keeps coming. The hard parts of my life I usually create for myself, but Your love is unstoppable. Thank You, thank You, thank You for never stopping! Amen

Who’s Fault Was It?

S. O. A. P.

Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!

S-cripture:

1 Kings 1:6 His father had never rebuked him by asking, “Why do you behave as you do?” He was also very handsome and was born next after Absalom.

O-bservation:

Not long before David, the King of Israel, passed away, his eldest son Adonijah appointed himself King of Israel. He was the younger brother of Absalom, who had split his father's kingdom. Like his brother Absalom, he was a beautiful person in looks and stature. He had legal rights to the throne, but it was not his to declare. David failed to discipline this boy, like he had with his other sons. In time the Divine heir to David’s throne was not Adonijah, but his younger brother Solomon, whom David appointed King before his death.

A-pplication:

After David died, Adonijah was seen begging Bathsheba, Solomon's mother, for an unholy request. When Bathsheba told her son Solomon, the King, of Adonijah's request, Solomon had his brother killed. At that time such a thing was ordained by God. However, this entire event begs the question, "Who's Fault Was It?" Certainly every adult will stand before God one day and give an account for their actions. But when a Father, Leader, and King over God's own people refused to discipline his own sons, and those sons perished because of their unholy decisions ... "Who's Fault Was It?"

P-rayer:

Dear Jesus, This AM I am reminded of the awesome responsibility of parenting. As a Father, what I know is it never ends until I end. Help me I pray. Amen

The Sword Of The Lord

S. O. A. P.

Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!

S-cripture:

Jeremiah 47:6 Alas, sword of the Lord, how long till you rest? Return to your sheath; cease and be still.’

O-bservation:

Take out an ancient map of Israel and read this chapter again. It seems as if God is wielding his sword against each one of Israel’s ten foes at that time in history. Picture God standing in the middle of tiny Israel and turning three hundred and sixty degrees in a circle with his sword drawn to ward off Israel’s enemies. Jeremiah knows them all well and knows that judgment is coming to all of them, including tiny Israel, for their sins against a loving yet righteous God. But, there is the sense that God longs to put his sword away for all of the judgment that must follow the acts of perpetual rebellion against him.

A-pplication:

Here I am dragging my dear father into the story again. He’s in heaven now, but I would never have had a chance at heaven had it not been for him. In my day, my father had a belt to help me stay in line. I promise you he used it sparingly. Dad used his belt with a tear in his eyes. Today they would call him an abuser in his efforts to keep me out of my sins expected destination. He won, and so did I. But he never wanted to use what saved me. My heart's motivation was to go the opposite way he was leading me. Thank God he won the day. Each of my sons loves their grandfather for NOT keeping his sword in its sheath. At the end of this chapter the weeping prophet said, “But how can the sword of the Lord be placed back into its sheath when God has commanded its use? That has always been the dilemma a loving father faces.

P-rayer:

Dear Jesus, They probably won’t forgive me for writing this post. But, just like my father was forced by the love in his heart to save me from sin's destruction, I know that has always been your way as well. Thank you for coming to this planet to take the ultimate blow in order to erase our hopeless state. Amen

How Soon They Forgot

S. O. A. P.

Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!

S-cripture:

Psalm 78:35 They remembered that God was their Rock, that God Most High was their Redeemer.

O-bservation:

It appears that this is a very positive passage from the pen of the Psalmist. Yet when the entire chapter is read, it’s easy to see that Israel was constantly turning its back and rebelling against the Lord. Over and over, God's only option was to punish the Israelites in their wilderness experience because of their continual rebellion. After each rebellion, God would discipline them, and then they would remember who he was and return to him, only to rebel again. “How Soon They Forgot!”

A-pplication:

Are we like the Israelites? I hope not. I don’t want to be a wayward child. Yet, when I look at this nation of ours, I only have to look at my nearly seven decades of living and see how far we have strayed from the days of a better righteous way of living. There was a day when marriage was more revered. There was a day when children were better-taken care of. There was a day when Sunday wasn’t just another day. There was a day when school was a place where scholarship really was the end goal. There was a day when most folks paused to give thanks before the meal. How soon we have forgotten. But, today, my friend, you and I don’t have to go that way. Today you and I can remember that our Savior is our Rock and our Redeemer.

P-rayer:

Dear Jesus, Here is my promise to you this AM. I will never forget it. You truly are my Rock and my Redeemer. Amen

But If God’s In It

S. O. A. P.

Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!

S-cripture:

Acts 5:39 “But if it is from God, you will not be able to stop these men; you will only find yourselves fighting against God.”

O-bservation:

Peter and others of the Apostles had been ministering throughout Jerusalem and were thrown into prison for preaching. God delivered them out of prison in the night, and they were found ministering in the temple the next day. When they were hauled before the authorities, the Pharisee leader, Gamaliel, stood and said, “Let these men go. If their purpose is of human origin, it will fail. ‘But If God’s In It,’ you won’t be able to stop them, and you will only be fighting God!”

A-pplication:

I feel in my heart I’m writing to someone this AM who has been under severe attack from the enemy for doing the will of God. Maybe you have taken a stand at work for the gospel’s sake. Could it be that you have been asked to join a team of people you know are out to do wrong but have said, “NO,” and now you’re fearing reprisal from them? And what about the young man or young woman who takes a stand for Jesus in their public school and is disciplined for it? These are case scenarios of people who want to do right, but now they’re in trouble for it. So here’s what I say, you may face discipline for doing right, “But If God’s In It,” you will be victorious and exonerated when it’s over.

P-rayer:

Dear Jesus, I’m praying specifically this AM for my friend who is reading this devotional. Please, Jesus, see them through the difficult situation they presently find themself in so You may receive all the glory. Amen
