The Bottom Line On Eternal Life

S. O. A. P.

Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!

S-cripture:

John 5:24 "Very truly I tell you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life and will not be judged but has crossed over from death to life."

O-bservation:

In this fifth chapter of the Gospel of John, once again Jesus has come under fire for healing a person on the Sabbath. The religious leaders chased Him down and gave Him major grief for having disgraced the Sabbath. Jesus said, “Those of you who will hear me, and believe the one who sent me (God), will not be judged but will have crossed over from death to life.”

A-pplication:

A society cannot move forward without good, law abiding citizens. But here the religious leaders were using the law to keep a man paralyzed. When Jesus healed him on the Sabbath, it forced them to be thankful or angry. They chose anger and took Jesus on ... again! But while speaking Jesus laid down “The Bottom Line on Eternal Life.” Here it is again. No matter what anyone tells you, those who hear the Word of the Lord and believe in God the Father will have crossed from death to life.

P-rayer:

Dear Jesus, I’m so thankful that I met Your conditions for eternal life years ago, and I never regret it! Amen

He Loves Us Too Much!

S. O. A. P.

Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!

S-cripture:

Hosea 11:8b "My heart is changed within me; all my compassion is aroused."

O-bservation:

God’s anger had burned toward Israel for her many idolatries. But in the middle of all His proclamations, He stopped and said, "How can I do this, I love you too much to destroy you!"

A-pplication:

It's hard not to relate this passage to my relationship with my sons. If you're a parent, like me, I'm sure there were times you just wanted to _______ (fill in the blank) ... your kids! But in the end you loved them too much! In this context, Israel had for some long time rebelled against the Lord. It was almost as if they did whatever they could do to arouse the anger of the Lord. There was a time in many of our lives where the circumstance was similar. Regardless of what God’s Word said ... we went against it. I know in my own life He should have done away with me long ago. Maybe you feel the same way today. Here's what you need to know, "He Loves Us Too Much!"

P-rayer:

Dear Jesus, This AM I'm reaffirming my love to You. But I know there's really no comparison. You love me way too much. For that I am thankful. Amen

Can You Stay The Way You Started For The Lord?

S. O. A. P.

Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!

S-cripture:

1 Samuel 11:6
When Saul heard their words, the Spirit of God came powerfully upon him, and he burned with anger.

O-bservation:

Saul had been told that the Ammonites, who were Israel’s enemies, had threatened their brothers in Jabesh-Gilead. The people of Jabesh were from the half-tribe of Manasseh. They asked the leader of the Ammonites to make a treaty with them, and they would serve them. But the leader of the Ammonites said, “I’ll make a treaty with you after each man lets us gouge out his right eye!” They had seven days to decide. When Saul (not yet king of Israel) heard this, the Holy Spirit came upon him in a powerful way, and righteous indignation filled his being.

A-pplication:

Probably what happened after this story is what solidified Saul in the minds of the Israelites that he was to be their king. The Holy Spirit led him to assemble 330,000 soldiers from the tribes, and they annihilated the Ammonites. The sad part of this story is that Saul was unable to maintain his spiritual authority as the King of Israel. He let his own opinion rule him instead of the Word of the Lord. He ended up killing himself. Yes, there’s lots of story in between, but it’s true. He couldn’t end the way he started for God. All of us have a choice. If you’re reading this post this AM, chances are you depend on the Lord on a daily basis. You love the Lord. But there may be a lot of living yet for you, and the question is, “Can You Stay The Way You Started For The Lord?”

P-rayer:

Dear Jesus, I’m longing for You more and more each day. It’s in my heart to stay the way I started for You. I don’t mean that I don’t want to grow and mature beyond the way I started, but rather that I want to finish the way I first loved You. Amen
