Can You Stay The Way You Started For The Lord?

Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!

1 Samuel 11:6

When Saul heard their words, the Spirit of God came powerfully upon him, and he burned with anger.

Saul had been told that the Ammonites, who were Israel’s enemies, had threatened their brothers in Jabesh-Gilead. The people of Jabesh were from the half-tribe of Manasseh. They asked the leader of the Ammonites to make a treaty with them, and they would serve them. But the leader of the Ammonites said, “I’ll make a treaty with you after each man lets us gouge out his right eye!” They had seven days to decide. When Saul (not yet king of Israel) heard this, the Holy Spirit came upon him in a powerful way, and righteous indignation filled his being.

Probably what happened after this story is what solidified Saul in the minds of the Israelites that he was to be their king. The Holy Spirit led him to assemble 330,000 soldiers from the tribes, and they annihilated the Ammonites. The sad part of this story is that Saul was unable to maintain his spiritual authority as the King of Israel. He let his own opinion rule him instead of the Word of the Lord. He ended up killing himself. Yes, there’s lots of story in between, but it’s true. He couldn’t end the way he started for God. All of us have a choice. If you’re reading this post this AM, chances are you depend on the Lord on a daily basis. You love the Lord. But there may be a lot of living yet for you, and the question is, “Can You Stay The Way You Started For The Lord?”

Dear Jesus,

I’m longing for You more and more each day. It’s in my heart to stay the way I started for You. I don’t mean that I don’t want to grow and mature beyond the way I started, but rather that I want to finish the way I first loved You. Amen
