Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!

S-cripture:

2 John 1:4 It has given me great joy to find some of your children walking in the truth, just as the Father commanded us.

O-bservation:

It is assumed that John the Apostle wrote this letter to the Church as a whole at that time. It is also believed that the "lady" he addressed the letter to in verse 1 is a metaphor for the Church. John was thankful that "SOME" of the people in that day were following Jesus.

A-pplication:

Most "Followers Of Jesus" know the passage in 2 Peter 3:9 that says God doesn't want anyone on the planet to go to hell. At the same time, all of us on the planet were given a "free will" at birth. Because of that "free will," any of us can choose to reject the loving grace of our Lord. That's why, no matter how desperate we may be to win the entire planet for Jesus, in the end only "SOME" will actually yield their lives to Jesus. "SOME," but not ALL. I've known this from the time I was a young believer, however it has never deterred me from believing that ALL may come to Christ. Like our Lord and Savior Jesus we will always reach for ALL, knowing that in the end only "SOME" will be saved.

P-rayer:

Dear Jesus, I'm believing that as I go into the marketplace today I will find my ALL saying YES to Jesus. Help me! Amen

It’s Not New

S. O. A. P.

Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!

S-cripture:

2 John 1:5 And now, dear lady, I am not writing you a new command but one we have had from the beginning. I ask that we love one another.

O-bservation:

Most certainly, the lady the Apostle John is writing to here is the Church. He reminds them that "It's Not New" what he's about to say. He wants them to love one another.

A-pplication:

It had been a number of years since Jesus had first said, "A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another” (Jn. 13:34). After the initial command to love was given by Jesus, it became the major theme of Christians everywhere. Love. John had aged since he first heard Jesus give that command. So he wanted to emphasize "It's Not New!" But John knew this "old thing" called love is what set them apart from everyone else. It's been over 2,000 years since John referred to that new thing as old. If it was old then, it's ancient now. However, it's still what sets us apart from everyone else. "It's Not New," but love is still the thing.

P-rayer:

Dear Jesus, It's an Old word, but I'm asking that You help me keep Love fresh in my life. Let love still be the first and last thought of my day. Everyday! Amen

Face To Face

S. O. A. P.

Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!

S-cripture:

2 John 1:12 I have much to write to you, but I do not want to use paper and ink. Instead, I hope to visit you and talk with you face to face, so that our joy may be complete.

O-bservation:

St. John writes to an unnamed and unknown lady in this, his second letter. He tells her and her children that he has more to say, but he doesn't want to write it; rather he wants to speak to all of them, "Face To Face."

A-pplication:

There has been much speculation as to who this lady and her children were in history. Since no one can truly identify them, it's best to say they represent the billions of men and women throughout the ages who are Unnamed an Unknown who have "Faithfully Followed Jesus." The great truth in this AM's reading is that some things are best communicated in person rather than in text form. Certainly John could have found more parchment and ink, but he had information for this family and he didn't want to chance a miscommunication. Whether it's Good News or Bad News, Critical News in either direction needs to be communicated "Face To Face." Stop. Don't write it down this AM! Rather, relay the message "Face To Face."

P-rayer:

Dear Jesus, I ask You today for Faith and Courage to communicate personal matters to individuals "Face To Face." I don't have time to be misinterpreted. Amen

Keep On Loving … SERIOUSLY

S. O. A. P

Here's your 90 second AM devotional!

S-cripture:

2 John 1:6 And this is love; that we walk in obedience to his commands. As you have heard from the beginning, his command is that you walk in love.

O-bservation:

John the Apostle, John the Beloved, and John the Evangelist are most likely one and the same. And whatever title you want to give him, he wrote this short letter to an unnamed woman. Whoever this lady was, she happened to be a church leader and John reminded her that the true mark of Christianity is LOVE. Love is the motivation for our obedience to Jesus, and the obedience he speaks of here is to walk in LOVE.

A-pplication:

There is NO New News! With God there is only "Good News," and that is that He loves us. And people will know that we are His followers because We LOVE People (All People) too. You can list All of the RULES, All of the DOCTRINES ... AND ... All of the HOUSE BELIEFS of a certain church or organization that you want. However, if LOVE isn't the transcending mandate ... You've got NOTHING! Jesus talked LOVE. St. Paul talked LOVE. St. Peter talked LOVE. And now here, nearly at the end of the Bible, John the EVANGELIST writes a 13 verse letter to an unnamed Church Lady and says, "Keep On Loving ... SERIOUSLY!"

P-rayer:

Dear Jesus, I get it! You’re pretty much saying, "Whatever rules you think you need ... Make sure you remember that LOVE is what this life called Christianity is all about. So, Just ... "Keep on Loving ... SERIOUSLY!" Amen PS. I get it.
