Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!
S-cripture:
2 John 1:5
And now, dear lady, I am not writing you a new command but one we have had from the beginning. I ask that we love one another.
O-bservation:
Most certainly, the lady the Apostle John is writing to here is the Church. He reminds them that “It’s Not New” what he’s about to say. He wants them to love one another.
A-pplication:
It had been a number of years since Jesus had first said, “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another” (Jn. 13:34). After the initial command to love was given by Jesus, it became the major theme of Christians everywhere. Love. John had aged since he first heard Jesus give that command. So he wanted to emphasize “It’s Not New!” But John knew this “old thing” called love is what set them apart from everyone else. It’s been over 2,000 years since John referred to that new thing as old. If it was old then, it’s ancient now. However, it’s still what sets us apart from everyone else. “It’s Not New,” but love is still the thing.
P-rayer:
Dear Jesus,
It’s an Old word, but I’m asking that You help me keep Love fresh in my life. Let love still be the first and last thought of my day. Everyday! Amen
