Kids First

S. O. A. P.

Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!

S-cripture:

1 Timothy 3:5 If anyone does not know how to manage his own family, how can he take care of God’s church?

O-bservation:

In writing to Timothy, St. Paul said anyone who desires to lead people within the Church must be able to first of all manage and lead their own family. Paul asks, “How can they lead the church if they can’t lead their own family?”

A-pplication:

Even in this short forum, through the years I’ve said that the Church, in its purest form, is a mom and dad and some kids. That’s where a man and a woman first learn to lead anyone. Unlike employees, kids will push back on any directive a parent gives them from DAY 1! From that workplace, a mother and a father learn how to manipulate the “push back” to work in their favor. Those who don’t watch their kids manipulate THEM into a place of submission. That means the kids now run the place. Words like spoiled, brats, insolent, rebellious, and finally, prisoner are used to describe a child a parent has failed to lead. Now, if that person aspires to lead God’s people, the question pops up … “HOW?” If they can’t lead their kids, they can’t lead the church. That’s why those who desire to lead in the house of God must put their “Kids First!”

P-rayer:

Dear Jesus, Thank You that right after our relationship with You, You enabled Robyn and me to lead our kids FIRST. In time, You’ve helped us lead in Your house. It’s been the highest privilege! Amen

Help Me Be An Example

S. O. A. P.

Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!

S-cripture:

1 Timothy 4:12 Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity.

O-bservation:

As "Followers of Jesus," St. Paul writes that we are to set an example for others in 5 categories. They are: Speech, Conduct, Love, Faith, and Purity.

A-pplication:

The Apostle is not suggesting that we should try to set an example, he's directing us to set an example. I don't think he wants any of us to operate in a legalistic, religious way, but instead in a holy way. Say good stuff. Don't act out in a stupid way. Make choices that are rooted in love. Be the positive voice for others that you want others to be for you. Live a moral life that is honorable as a Jesus Follower. These Biblical Principles are actually directed to the young. The Great Apostle believed those who have been seasoned with age already know these principles. Since I'm part of the "SEASONED with Years Team," my prayer is “Lord, Help Me Be An Example!"

P-rayer:

Dear Jesus, You already know what I'm going to say ..."Help Me Be An Example!" Amen

The Worst

S. O. A. P.

Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!

S-cripture:

1 Timothy 1:15 Here is a trustworthy saying that deserves full acceptance: Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners—of whom I am the worst.

O-bservation:

At an elderly age, the Apostle Paul was still amazed by the love and grace of our Lord. In this passage, he still believed that if a person was judging him based on the wretchedness of his former life of sin, he indeed was "The Worst."

A-pplication:

This statement was made during the reign of Nero, the wicked emperor of Rome. Even faced with the staggering depravity of Nero’s reign, Paul was still convinced No One had ever reached the depths of sin he had. Why? I believe the great Apostle had plumbed the depths of God’s grace like few had before or ever have since. As much of a Pharisee as possible before his salvation, Paul became an even stronger Christian after. Consequently, the depth of his love for Jesus, who accepted him and forgave him, kept him saying, “I know that of all the people who ever did sin, I was The Worst.”

P-rayer:

Dear Jesus, When I read Paul's words this AM, the first thing I think of is, "No, I'm the worst." But You have given me life and life more abundantly. Thank You. Amen

SHIPWRECKED

S. O. A. P.

Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!

S-cripture:

1 Timothy 1:19 Holding on to faith and a good conscience, which some have rejected and so have suffered shipwreck with regard to the faith.

O-bservation:

Paul the Apostle wrote to his son in the faith, who's name was Timothy. He encouraged him to hold on to his faith and respect his conscience, otherwise his faith could suffer "SHIPWRECK."  Because that's what Paul had seen happen to others.

A-pplication:

I literally just saw an Instagram photo of a luxury yacht which had been "Shipwrecked" this AM. It startled me. I had two thoughts: the captain of that ship wasn't paying attention, or perhaps the captain had gotten lost in a storm. Either way it was the Captain's fault. Our life is like a ship. We as the captain have the authority about which way we will steer our ship. I hear people who have suffered "SHIPWRECK" in their lives question what happened. They say, "I'm a Christian, I just don't know why God let this happen?" The more you hear their story, you begin to find out that they never gave the "HELM" to Jesus. Paul gives us the secret to avoiding "SHIPWRECK" in this life. We're called to hold on to our FAITH, and to respect our CONSCIENCE. When things aren't right, our CONSCIENCE will signal to our soul that there are rocks ahead. If we've given Jesus the helm of our ship, we'll avoid being, "SHIPWRECKED."

P-rayer:

Dear Jesus, This AM I know I'm the Captain of my ship, You have given me that role. But, once again I'm giving you the HELM. Amen

Keep Praying

S. O. A. P.

Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!

S-cripture:

1 Timothy 2:8 Therefore I want the men everywhere to pray, lifting up holy hands without anger or disputing.

O-bservation:

Paul instructed his young understudy, Timothy, on how he wanted the work of God to go on everywhere. He said he wanted men to “Keep Praying” wherever Christianity began and flourished. He wanted them to pray with hands lifted, and he said that praying would help transcend any disputes they may have.

A-pplication:

This passage of scripture reminds us that the driving force of world evangelization is PRAYER. Prayer is an activity of the heart and mind that operates in faith, believing in God Almighty in spite of the fact that we will never see Him on this side of heaven. It is that kind of faith that moves the heart of God so that in a moment when the prayer of faith is fully engaged, God will dispatch His unseen force of heavenly angels to make a victory happen. It’s mysterious and unexplainable to the unbeliever until they accept Jesus and experience it for themselves. That’s why Paul said, “Keep Praying!”

P-rayer:

Dear Jesus, I will never cease to pray and keep my attention on You. My prayer is always, “What will You have me to do, my Lord.?” Amen
