Stuff Happens
S. O. A. P.
Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!
S-cripture:
Leviticus 13:45
“Anyone with such a defiling disease must wear torn clothes, let their hair be unkempt, cover the lower part of their face and cry out, ‘Unclean! Unclean!’”
O-bservation:
There were a number of Levitical laws in the Old Testament regarding what scripture refers to as defiling skin diseases. Because there were no antibiotics in that era of history, a disease could spread quickly. When a Jewish person noticed something unusual about their skin, they had to go to Aaron or one of his sons and have it looked at. Often it was a skin irritation that cleared up on its own, but many times there would be a highly contagious skin disease. It was in those times that the priest would have to check the individual personally, and if he found the disease to be life-threatening he would have the person wear clothes that were torn, let their hair be unkempt, cover the lower part of their face, and cry out, “Unclean! Unclean!”
A-pplication:
When I read this passage, I am seeing young people and moms and dads and grandparents who were minding their own business, and someone would say, “Hey, what’s that sore on your arm?” In just a moment, back in the day, a person’s life could be radically changed. Here’s the truth, “Stuff Happens!” No one plans to live in trouble or pain or afflicted with a disease. But sometimes, “Stuff Happens.” When it does, people who loved you the most may be the very ones who turn their backs on you. Before you know it, you feel like you could scream, “Hey, I’m Unclean.” The truth is, we’re all unclean. Whatever you’re afflicted with may not rot your skin, but may very well be able to rot your soul. Whatever it is that you’re experiencing today, please, give it to Jesus.
P-rayer:
Dear Jesus,
This AM, I want to lay my life upon your altar again personally. Whatever Your will is for me, in the future, I ask that You keep me in the palm of Your hand. I yield every part of me. Amen
