Simply Said, Hardly Accomplished

S. O. A. P.

Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!

S-cripture:

John 14:15

If you love me, keep my commands.

O-bservation:

Jesus says what any loving father would say to his son or daughter. Because He knows what’s best for us. He says if you really love me, keep the commands I’ve given you.

A-pplication:

Since Jesus said it, there is an implication that every time we fail to keep His commands we’re not loving Him. Yet how many times have I failed to keep His commands. Trust me, I can’t number them, and if I do you surely wouldn’t read this devotional again. The truth is this verse is “Simply Said, Hardly Accomplished.” Why then is it given? It’s given because every time we fail Jesus, we fail in our pursuit of doing what’s really best for us. But even in the continual failure of each of my four sons through the years, I’ve never thought of ceasing to love them. And because I do love them I’ve pretty much forgotten their failures and celebrate their accomplishments. That’s the way our God is when our heart is motivated to follow Him.

P-rayer:

Dear Jesus,

I realize this AM that even on my best days I’m prone to fail You. But my heart is all for You. Help my actions to line up with my heart! Amen
