Sex … Yes Or No?

S. O. A. P.

Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!

1 Corinthians 7:5

Do not deprive each other except perhaps by mutual consent and for a time, so that you may devote yourselves to prayer. Then come together again so that Satan will not tempt you because of your lack of self-control.

These are the words of St. Paul concerning sex in marriage. Biblical scholars agree that Paul was single when he penned these words, and for the entirety of his ministry. Whether or not he was ever married is inconclusive. But on this point, Paul certainly had it right. He said that sex is necessary in a good marriage, and that one is not to deprive the other of the act unless they both agree. At that point, they are only to refrain for prayerful purposes and then come together again. Temptation is always there, and that’s why an active sex life in marriage is God’s antidote against temptation.

The last thing I want to do in this devotional is to sound ethereal and all wonderful. The truth is, after being married to the same woman for well over forty years, this act of love in marriage is not only needed, it is given by almighty God to fulfill the appetite He gave us in order to procreate. But it is also for much more than procreation. God gave sex in marriage for shelter and sanctuary and warmth and pleasure. However, when this act is taken out of the marriage bed, it is defiled and leads to all the things that oppose all of the good I previously mentioned. I am a married man. I am a man of God. I know what scripture says. And, when it’s done right, it’s never “Sex, Yes Or No?” Instead, it’s always “Sex, Yes!”

Dear Jesus,

As a happy man, husband, father, and pastor, I thank You for the wonderful gift of sex in marriage. You gave it. Your word hides nothing concerning the act, and we as Your leaders must never refrain from dealing with this marvelous subject. Thank You for the opportunity to help folks right here on this post. Amen
