Please, No More Giving!

Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!

Exodus 36:6

Then Moses gave an order and they sent this word throughout the camp: “No man or woman is to make anything else as an offering for the sanctuary.” And so the people were restrained from bringing more.

When it came time for Moses to build the mobile tabernacle in the wilderness, the people became so emotionally attached to building the mobile tabernacle that they brought so much money, that Moses, their leader, actually made an impassioned plea that basically said, “Please, No More Giving!”

I love this story. This, to me, is proof that people love the house of the Lord. It’s true that you and I are the Church, and wherever we are and whatever time we choose, we can begin to worship our Lord. Yet it’s also true that people love a place where they can gather together and worship their Lord. Moses had put the word out that he was going to need specialists in all dimensions of building to be able to create a glorious house of worship that could be taken down and moved from place to place while the Children of Israel traveled toward their promised land. The response was so fantastic that TOO much was being given. Finally, Moses had to put the word out, “Please No More Giving!” I’ve been privileged to lead a congregation filled with people like these. Don’t get me wrong. We don’t have millionaires that I know of in our urban church, but we have givers who give like they are. I’ve never said it yet, but any day, like Moses, I hope to have to say, “Please, No More Giving!”

Dear Jesus,

Thank You for a congregation of people who love Your house and love the mission You have placed on our hearts. Help me be the kind of Pastor who is always reminded of the blessing I have to serve such wonderful people. Amen
