Here’s Your 90 second AM Devotional!

S-cripture:

Psalm 22:19

But you, Lord, do not be far from me. You are my strength; come quickly to help me.

O-bservation:

In a time when King David felt his life to be in peril, he asked the Lord not to be far from him. He somehow felt himself to be distanced from his only hope. It sounds as if he was crying and said, “Please Jesus, Come Closer!”

A-pplication:

Have you ever felt like Jesus was somewhere, but certainly NOT NEAR YOU? That’s exactly what David seems to be feeling in this Psalm. This is a messianic Psalm, describing in a futuristic way what the cross experience of Christ would one day look like. However, in this one verse David seems to break from the future and feel himself to be alone and away from the Good Shepherd. Quite often, when I feel myself alone and away from Jesus, I stop and review my recent actions. Usually I find that in the business of trying to make a mark it’s been me who has left Jesus out and not the other way around. David did the right thing here and so can you. Why not pause right now and say, “Please Jesus, Come Closer!”

P-rayer:

Dear Jesus,

I never want to leave You out as if to say, “I’ve got this!” What I want to ALWAYS say is, “Please Jesus, Come Closer!” Amen
